My wife was contacted a couple months ago by a friend who needed some headshots and wanted to also shoot a cool, modern pin-up set to kick start a new modeling portfolio. One thing led to another and my wife had found a killer hotel in Palm Springs to shoot at, we had a makeup artist on board, and the date was booked!

We stayed at the Ace Hotel & Swim Club, which had some of the coolest rooms I’ve ever stayed in. As soon as my wife and I saw how cool this hotel was from their website, we knew it would be a fun place to shoot. Our room had a California King sized bed with all kinds of retro decor, including a record player and some cool old photos pinned up on the slotted wall behind the bed. The other cool thing about our room was that it had a large patio with an outdoor fireplace and a sweet egg-shaped rocking chair… which you will see below. To say the least, we knew this would yield some killer photos.

We arrived on Saturday afternoon, got settled in and shot for a couple hours that night after the sun dropped. We utilized the room, the patio with the fireplace and also a bigger fireplace out in the common grounds of the hotel. The next day we got up and shot for nearly another two hours in that nice, soft, glowing natural light… my favorite! Check out the photos below, starting with the night session…

Makeup/Hair - Heidi Holliday  |  Style - Heather Kloster  |  Model - Sarah Hayden

The high temp was 115 degrees while we were there!! That fireplace did not help matters… but ya gotta get the shot!!  =)

Seriously… awesome.

She rocked those glasses like none other!…

These next four images were shot in the curtained entry-way into our patio. I love me some enveloping backlight!!

Thanks again to everyone who came out and made this shoot so much fun. Sarah, Heather, Heidi and Jason… you guys are the best!

OSP Laguna Meetup…

April 14, 2008

This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of meeting quite a few local photographers from the OSP (Open Source Photo) Forum. We met downtown and headed to the beach to shoot variations of a model portrait session as well as an engagement session. Things like this really remind me that I am VERY lucky to have found my true passion in life. It will never feel like “work” when you do what you love every day. I had SO much fun meeting everyone and I can’t wait for the next get-together.

Below are some of the shots that I took while bouncing back an forth between couple and model. I had fun jumping in the water and climbing up the hills for some of these… Hope ya like ‘em!!

Portraits! …updated.

March 25, 2008

So… the portrait trade session out in Pasadena is over. We didn’t have much of a turn out, unfortunately. I think that it was tough for most to make it out on a Moday @ 3pm with work, traffic, etc. We still had a good amount of fun though. Araxi stopped by for a little bit before anyone else showed up and said hello. I loved talking with her about how things are going with our lives and businesses… she is so nice! A little bit later Mark Christensen showed up followed by Conrad Lim. We got to talk quite a bit and joke around quite a bit more. Oh… and YES… we took some pictures too! =)

Below are some of the shots that I took while I was out there…

- This little guy was hanging out with me while I waited for people to arrive. He walked up to like 3 feet from me and starting chowing down on acorns…

-Here is shot of Mark Christensen (photographer)…

- A couple of Conrad… (I love the light in these)

-This one cracks me up. Mark got Conrad to attempt to climb this palm tree and I got this one as he jumped down. By the way… if you don’t see any more posts from me in the near future, it just means that Conrad off’d me in some dark alley for posting this.   =)   (Sorry man, haha)

Thanks again guys (and Araxi) for coming out. ‘Till next time…

Hey everyone. I just had to post real quick and mention an organization that is doing some pretty amazing things. The Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep Foundation (NILMDTS) is a network of over 3000 VOLUNTEER photographers from all over the globe. These photographers donate their time and talent to families who have a child with a short life expectancy and document this precious time, creating memories that will last forever.

I am proud to say that, as of today, I am an affiliated photographer for this organization. I look forward to providing families a way in which they may honor and cherish their child long after they grace us with their presence.

Please follow the link below to watch the Today Show’s coverage of this amazing organization…

Well… I went to the “Master Your Craft” seminar with Mike Colon and Bob Davis yesterday. I had a TON of fun hearing what Mike & Bob had to say as well as networking with all the other photographers there. It was a VERY productive day and I was inspired by everyone an everything there.

If you get the chance, go see Mike Colon and/or Bob Davis speak. There is a reason they are at the top of their game… and the greatest thing of all is… they WANT TO SHARE IT WITH YOU! I know I sound like an infomercial, but seriously… it was a great learning experience.

The following link will take you to some photos from the seminar. Sorry there aren’t more… I was busy LEARNING! =)

New look…

February 21, 2008

What’s up everyone? Just wanted to post here and mention that my blog has obviously gone through some changes in appearance. I’m very happy with how simple and effective this new layout is and hopefully you are as well.

Be sure to keep an eye out for changes to my main website as well. I’ll be adding wedding/event content to the portfolio as well as completely overhauling the look and operation of the site. A little animation here, some music there… it’s gonna be nice.

And one last thing… I’m shooting a couple for their engagement photos on Sunday at the Fullerton Arboretum. Watch for a new post with pictures and commentary on how it turned out!

I hope everyone’s week is ending well… the weekend awaits!
